GHI 2013 and the Rise of Multilateralism
"The President’s budget request for 2013 is out: total money spent on GHI is reduced by 3.5% and PEPFAR’s budget shrinks by 10.8%. While both figures may be alarming, there is a bright spot: contributions to the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria go up by 27% to $1.65 billion. In addition to the Global Fund, GAVI, IDA, Asian Development Fund and the African Development Fund are all among agencies that are getting increases on their funding; notably, GAVI by 11.5%.
Why is this a good thing? Multilateral aid is more efficient."

- My name is Kaya Shah, and I grew up in Knoxville, TN, a city nestled in a valley of the Smokey Mountains. I moved to Boston to study physics and planetary science at MIT. After graduating, I researched pediatric HIV and TB diagnostics with the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief at the Harvard School of Public Health. I received my M.D. from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. While at Stritch, I participated in a service trip to Fond-des-blancs, Haiti, six months after the 2010 earthquake. I am currently a resident in the anesthesiology residency program at Loyola University Medical Center. I remain interested in medical mission trips.

It'll be nice when we start lowering the budgets of the Department of Defense and the military as well.
