Ebola May Have Passed From a Pig to a Human - NYTimes, 1/23/2009

This article notes the transmittance of the Ebola virus from a pig to farm worker in the Philippines. This particular strain is non-lethal, but this discovery proves that pigs can be hosts for Ebola. The unfortunate thing about pigs is that they provide the right conditions for virus recombination. For example, a human flu virus could combine with this Ebola virus to produce a new, more robust virus. Though this particular Ebola virus is very stable (meaning, doesn't mutate frequently, like HIV), I think danger could lurk in African countries where pig farming is common and lethal forms of Ebola are present.
